KSM Safety Solution Series

KSM servomotors are unique because they come integrated with a servo drive. This is why the motors are also referred to as distributed servo drives. These servomotors must be turned on only after their equipment grounding connection has been properly established. They support natural convection cooling mode. The motors use a multi-Ethernet interface for master communication.

Indramat KSM servomotors support two output shaft choices comprising a plain and smooth shaft and a shaft with a keyway. Both shafts encompass a shaft sealing ring. They also come with or without an electrically releasing holding brake. The integrated servo drive may or may not support Safe Torque Off safety function. The distributed servo drives can be used only in conjunction with a KCU02 electronic control system. The high-performance servomotors are characterized by IP 65 degree of protection in accordance with IEC 60529 specifications and 155 thermal class. We have the proprietary knowledge and tools to build obsolete or non-existent parts that are impossible to find for whatever reason.

  • The servo drive integrated with the KSM servomotors features digital inputs and outputs that comply with IEC 61131 specifications.
  • The holding brake of the Indramat servomotors must be tested for proper functioning and resurfaced if needed, before the motors are commissioned. This testing and resurfacing can be done mechanically by hand or automatically using software.
  • The Indramat KDM servomotor surface becomes very hot during operation and has a temperature of over 100°C. Hence, these motors must be cooled down for at least 140 minutes after turning off the power supply for them to cool down completely.
  • The motor bearings have a nominal service life of 30,000 operating hours as per ISO 281 specifications as long as the permissible axial and radial forces are not exceeded. They should be replaced after this period or if the motor depicts running noises.
  • The firmware of the KSM servomotors has several inbuilt functions. The Patch function supports the writing or reading of the internal memory cells of the servo drive. On the other hand, the Monitoring function is used for extended diagnostics while the Logbook function helps to keep track of the drive's internal firmware history.

Indramat KSM servomotors have protective sleeves on their shafts that must be removed only before commencing the mounting process. The mounting flange must be free of burs and the mounting must be done in a clean and dry environment. The servo drive has an integrated tricolor LED to assist in the diagnostics.

KSM servomotors must be protected against corrosion and damping. The Indramat servomotors must never be lifted by holding on to the blower housing. This action must be accomplished by using suitable tackles. The type plates of the motors depict details like their type designations and key technical details needed for service.
