Product Description
Conforming with other stepper motors in the Powermax II category, the P22NRXB-LNN-NS-00 offers high quality and reliability. Kollmorgen Manufacturing acquired the Powermax II line from Pacific Scientific and has since kept the production standard high.
The P22NRXB-LNN-NS-00 features the regular hybrid construction of a Powermax P-series motor, with the generic NEMA 23 frame dimensions and mount. Equipped with a standard and full two-stack rotor, this motor offers extra torque at a reduced frame size. The lamination of the rotor also ensures an improved efficiency in torque delivery, although with relatively reduced acceleration. To achieve specific mechanical and electrical performance to suit motor application, its ‘B’ winding can be connected in the unipolar, parallel or series form. Under these connections, this motor can produce a holding torque of either 1.07Nm (unipolar) or 1.51Nm (series/parallel). To drive the rotor and determine speed, this motor can accept currents of up to 4.6A (parallel connection).
This ensures good speed characteristics, but a potential for increased heating. This is not a problem, since the motor dissipates heat via convection through its open laminations and according to its thermal resistance of 4.5 ℃/watt . For lower currents, the series connection offers 2.3A and the unipolar is at 3.3A. It is recommended to operate this motor within these rated current specifications, to avoid demagnetization. The winding inductance possible for this motor is at 8.4mH (series) and 2.1mH (Unipolar/parallel). Due to back-emf, the high inductance values (in series) may suggest a higher operating voltage to achieve specific results. Also, to further limit voltage-current behavior of this motor, the windings have phase resistances of 0.38, 0.76 and 1.52 ohms respectively for unipolar, parallel and series connections.
The shaft attached to this motor is smooth and single-ended, and it does not support encoders for feedback.
