The Okuma OSP-500L-G is a multiprocessor CNC system using multiple high-performance microprocessors, and features architecture capable of coping high level NC functions. It supports features such as alarm monitor data processing, link with high level computers, advanced online automatic programming function and large capacity part program storage. The OSP-500L-G CNC also supports diagnostics and operation guides, display of alarm data and display of production control information on the CRT. The OSP-500L-G provides high reliability by numerous functions such as automatic memory error correction, noise isolation, and simple structure mounted in an enclosed cabinet. The OSP-500L-G employs a closed-loop system with absolute feedback. The heart of the system is the CPU unit, which is comprised of a main board, a timing processor board, and servo processor board. A power supply unit provides all power required for CPU operation.
A servo drive unit on the OSP-500L-G receives motor current command from the CPU to the servo motors. This accurately controls movements of the turret in accordance with programmed commands. Relay and magnet switch circuits are used to control machine-mounted solenoids and electric motors, and also convey signals from the machine-mounted pushbutton switches and limit switches to the CPU. The CPU, drive units, relay and magnet switch circuits are arranged ins a single control enclosure. A totally enclosed construction provides reliable protection against entry of oil, mist, dust which ensures stable performance of semiconductor based electronics, relay and magnet switches. All controls necessary for operation of the machine are incorporated into the operation panel. A cooling unit on the OSP-500L-G provided above or at the side of the control box keeps the temperature inside the control enclosure virtually at room temperature level. This leads to higher reliability for the CNC system.
