Product Description
The first bubble memory device was created in 1967. This part is a bubble memory card. The E0227-702-004 is a 2Mbit bubble memory card from Okuma. The Opus 5000 bubble memory card is a vintage memory card which uses non-volatile computer memory. This type of memory makes use of magnetic material in a very thin film to hold on to “bubbles”. These bubbles are small magnetized areas also called domains. Each of these bubbles has a storage capacity of one bit of data. Bubble memory cards are very similar to delay line memory systems in the way they operate.
This Memory Board Opus 5000 part weighs approximately 1lb and measures 11 inches by 6 inches by 1 inch. Being a vintage part these parts are no longer being manufactured so you are lucky to have the ability to get your hands on one of these.
The E0227-702-004 memory card allows you the opportunity to store your computer’s memory without losing it when the computer turns off. It is important to note that this type of memory is no longer used in many more modern computer systems.
This bubble memory card consists of an inner design featuring orthogonal coils right below the surface of the magnetic plate. The unit also includes a user system that includes diode arrays, coil drivers, a sense amplifier, a function timing generator, a function driver and a controller. The user system is connected to the orthogonal coils via an interconnect. The orthogonal coils are also connected to bubble chip which has other components such as chevron propagation elements, a Ni-Fe guide, a bubble domain, an epitaxial magnetic film, and a CGG non-magnetic substrate.
