S7480A-FBF2-S3 is a Kollmorgen S700 series digital servo amplifier. S700 amplifiers are designed for use in closed loop control systems. They support multiple feedback evaluation methods, including ComCoder, encoder and resolver. Real-time motor feedback enables accurate control for motor parameters such as current, speed and position. S700 amplifiers support additional features such as safe torque off, single cable feedback, auto tuning, cogging suppression, and RS-232, Ethernet and CANopen interfaces. Integrated EMI filters protect against electromagnetic interference and enable EMC compliance. Amplifier firmware and parameters can be backed up to a memory card. In case of amplifier failure, the backups on a memory card can be used for rapid commissioning of a replacement unit. S700 amplifiers are UL, CE and TUV safety tested. Operators can connect S700 amplifiers directly to grounded AC mains operating at 208 to 480 Volts AC.

An isolation transformer should be used when connecting to ungrounded AC supplies. Nominal output of the S7480A-FBF2-S3 is 48 Amps and the peak output is 96 Amps rms. Three expansion cards are installed on the amplifier, including a feedback expansion card, a fan control card, and a safety card. Kollmorgen has designed S700 amplifiers for 0 to 40 degrees Celsius ambient temperature. An integrated cooling fan helps to dissipate heat effectively. However, the cooling fan creates noise emissions. Some applications require a reduction in noise emissions. For these applications, the fan control card is used to optimize fan operation and manage noise emissions. The fan control card switches off the fan, runs it at half speed, or runs it a full speed. The fan speed algorithm takes into account the ambient temperature and heat sink temperature.
