S7480A-FBF2-PA is a high-performance digital servo amplifier. It is designed and manufactured by Kollmorgen, a leading global provider of motion control technologies, systems, and solutions. The amplifier is deployed in combination with servo motors. It is used for the control of motor parameters, such as speed, position, and torque. S700 amplifiers from Kollmorgen work with a wide range of industrial motors, such as DC motors, linear motors, asynchronous motors, and synchronous motors. These amplifiers support multiple feedback evaluation options, including ComCoder, encoder and resolver. Each S700 amplifier supports dual channel safe torque off. This is a safety feature designed to prevent accidental motor movement. Integrated Ethernet allows communication over EtherCAT and SynqNet networks. CANopen and RS-232 interfaces are also available on S700 amplifiers. Each S700 unit has three slots that allow amplifier matching to application requirements.

The S7480A-FBF2-PA unit comes with three factory-installed cards. These include a feedback extension card, a fan control card and a position I/O monitor card. With the feedback extension card, a digital primary and analog secondary feedback can be connected at the X1 connector. The fan control card can be ordered to reduce noise emissions associated with cooling fan. This card cannot be installed in the field. The F2 option card can be installed in either slot 2 or slot 3. The F2 card switches off the fan or runs it at 50% of speed. Operating state of the cooling fan depends on ambient and heat sink temperature. The fan is switched off when the ambient temperature is less than 55 degrees Celsius, run at 50% speed when the ambient temperature is near 58 degrees, and run at full speed when the temperature is more than 65 degrees Celsius.
