Product Description

The SERVOSTAR-601-AS is a high-performance servo amplifier for precision motor control, incorporating additional features and high protection level for industrial utilization. It has a voltage rating of ~ 10 V for the differential input with a 14-bit resolution. For long-distance signal transmission without signal degradation, the amplifier maintains a characteristic impedance of 100-120 ohm/s and a maximum cable capacitance with 30 nanofarad/km. To ensure effective termination of signal lines 150 ohm ~5 simulating resistor is employed.

The system includes thermal protection which generally employs a PTC hidden inside a motor winding for temperature detection and control to prevent hazards. The SSI-interface gives out position outputs which are nearly absolute in a serial form to assist in accurate positioning. A supply filter for isolating power supply cable noise is contained in the servo amplifier together with setpoint ramps for restricting the rate of increase in the speed setpoint for proper motor control. There are internal count pulses that pulse after every 1/220 of a turn to feed back control accurately, also the brake circuit can waste constant power efficiently. The DC bus link provides controlled rectified and smoothed power voltage, promotes steady functioning of devices during load variations. Moreover, the amplifier is complemented with different types of fieldbus such as CANopen, PROFIBUS and SERCOS for system advancement.

Risk Management is as important as operating the SERVOSTAR 601-AS. First of all, one should never remove the electrical connections from the servo amplifier circuitry when it is energized, as the likely result would be the destruction of the electronics, or at the very best there is a risk that stored charges in the capacitors, which can be hazardous for up to 300 seconds, even after the power is switched off, could present a risk.

Frequently Asked Questions about SERVOSTAR-601-AS

Q: What are the input voltage specifications and signal transmission capabilities of the SERVOSTAR 601-AS?

A: The SERVOSTAR 601-AS has a differential input voltage rating of ~10V with a 14-bit resolution, ensuring precise motor control. For long-distance signal transmission, it maintains a characteristic impedance of 100-120 ohms and a maximum cable capacitance of 30 nanofarads per kilometer. A 150-ohm ~5% terminating resistor is employed to ensure effective termination of signal lines, preventing signal degradation.

Q: How does the SERVOSTAR 601-AS manage thermal protection?

A: The amplifier uses a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor embedded inside the motor winding for temperature detection and control. This thermal protection system helps prevent overheating and potential hazards by monitoring the motors temperature and ensuring safe operation.

Q: What features does the SERVOSTAR 601-AS offer for accurate motor control?

A: The SERVOSTAR 601-AS includes an SSI interface that outputs near-absolute position data in serial form, aiding in precise positioning. It also features setpoint ramps that restrict the rate of increase in the speed setpoint, ensuring smooth motor control. Additionally, the amplifier uses internal count pulses (1/220 of a turn) to provide accurate feedback for control, and the brake circuit efficiently dissipates constant power.

Q: What are the power management and fieldbus communication options available with the SERVOSTAR 601-AS?

A: The amplifier includes a DC bus link that provides rectified and smoothed power voltage, ensuring steady device operation during load variations. It supports multiple fieldbus communication options, including CANopen, PROFIBUS, and SERCOS, enabling advanced system integration and control.

Q: What safety precautions should be taken when operating the SERVOSTAR 601-AS?

A: Risk management is crucial when operating the SERVOSTAR 601-AS. Never remove electrical connections from the amplifier circuitry while it is energized, as this could damage the electronics or pose a safety risk. Capacitors in the amplifier can hold dangerous charges for up to 300 seconds after the power is switched off, so its important to wait before handling the device to avoid potential hazards.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘For safety, the SERVOSTAR-601-AS is crucial not to remove electrical connections while the amplifier is energized, as this could lead to damage or hazardous conditions from stored capacitor charges, which can remain dangerous for up to 300 seconds after power is cut.’’
