Product Description

The IDC NEXTSTEP-SYST01 is a microstepping drive. The AC input power rating for the drive is 90 to 120 Volts AC (single-phase, 50 / 60 Hertz). The drive draws maximum 7.9 Amps and maximum input power of 500 VA. The motor current range is 0 to 7.9 amps in 0.1 Amp increments. If the current setting is higher than 6 Amps, the NEXTSTEP-SYST01 folds back current to 6 Amps when the motor is at rest. The nominal bus voltage on the drive is 160 Volts DC. The drive is compatible with 2-phase hybrid permanent magnet motors. The inductance range for the NEXTSTEP-SYST01 is 2 to 60 millihenry. The drive inductance combines with the auto adjusting current loop for optimizing the performance of any step motor. Switching frequency for the amplifier is 20 kilohertz.

The NEXTSTEP-SYST01 features short circuit protection, and the amplifier is disabled on detection of phase to ground or phase to phase short circuit. The amplifier is also disabled if the AC input drops below 90 Volts AC, if the heatsink temperature exceeds 65 degrees Celsius if the interlock connection is broken on motor connector or if the regen condition causes bus voltage to rise above 220 Volts DC. The ambient conditions for the NEXTSTEP-SYST01 are -40 to 80 degrees Celsius for storage, maximum 50 degrees Celsius for operation and 0 to 90% relative humidity. Dimensions of the NEXTSTEP-SYST01 are 5.4 x 5.4 x 2.5 inches. The “ON” LED is green when power is ok, yellow when the drive is shut down and is red when drive is undergoing an overtemperature condition. Only trained personnel should install and operated the drive and associated motors.

Frequently Asked Questions about NEXTSTEP-SYST01

Q: What is the drive used for?

A: The drive is used to control IDC stepper motors.

Q: What is the effect of setting the REST dip switch to the ON position?

A: Setting the REST dip switch to the ON position will lead to reduction of motor current to 1 Amp after a 12 minute period with no motion. Full motor current will resume upon receipt of next step pulse.

Q: What is the effect of setting the IDLE dip switch to the ON position?

A: Setting the IDLE dip switch to the ON position will lead to reduction of drive current to 75% after a 12 minute period with no step pulses. Full current will resume upon receipt of next step pulse.

Q: What is necessary after changes to any of the RESOLUTION switches?

A: The drive must be power cycled after changes to any of the RESOLUTION switches.

Q: Is any horizontal spacing required between adjacent drives?

A: Horizonal spacing is not required, but 0.1 inch spacing is recommended for ease of installation.
