The KSM 121-2 is an expansion module from Kollmorgen that is used for safe motion of one drive axes applications. The KSM series module can be connected using a backplane connector to the basic module of the manufacturer’s programmable fail-safe control systems. The connection is done by snapping the unit on the headrail using pluggable terminals. The resolver has a maximum phase fault of 8°. It has a maximum of 600Hz signal frequency and a reference frequency in the range of 6kHz to 1kHz. The relays have voltage ratings of 24VDC and/or 230VAC at 2A current rating. The unit has an IP 52 class of protection.

The expansion module must be stored in a temperature range of -10° to +70° C. It has a maximum terminal cross-section of 1.5sq. mm. It has a climate class of 3 and SIL 3 in accordance with DIN 50 178 and EN 61508 specifications respectively. The unit features one axis for drive monitoring and two encoder interfaces on the front side and terminals. The front side encoder interface supports the D-SUB type of connectors. The device has a proof-test interval of 20 years. The module supports two pulse outputs, two standard outputs, one relay output, two safe digital outputs, and two safe digital inputs. There are also 10 safe I/Os that can be configured for use as either inputs or outputs. The ENC board has 150kHz clocking frequency in the Master mode and 150kHz to 350kHz in the Slave mode. The unit houses 2x2 encoder interface terminals with clamp type terminal connection. The digital outputs have 24 VDC voltage rating and 250mA current rating.
