The CTM31NLF28KAA00 is a two phase brushless stepper motor from Kollmorgen. The motor moves 200 steps per revolution ensuring a smooth and precise movement that is easy to control without the need of costly feedback devices. Kollmorgen step motors provide a high torque although they have a small frame. The motor is CE compliant and supports special factory modifications such as shaft length, connectors and leads. Motors in the Kollmorgen CTM series where the CTM31NLF28KAA00 belongs, are cheaper compared to other motors in the market capable of delivering the same performance.

The CTM31NLF28KAA00 can be interfaced with Kollmorgen stepper drives such as the P7000 stepper drive-controller which is available as a basic drive or with an advanced position controller. Key features provided by the P7000 that makes it ideal to control CTM series motors include auto-tuning, multistepping, dynamic smoothing, mid-band anti-resonance control, intelligent indexing option, among others. The motor features a high voltage insulation system and supports an axial shaft load of 45 kilograms in both directions. The relationship between the motor and the controlling drive is so close such that a change in voltage and or current to the drive has a direct effect on the motor’s performance.

However, although the increase in voltage and current increase the motor’s performance, it also increases motor heating. Therefore, the CTM31NLF28KAA00 should be mounted and operated in places with adequate circulation of cool air. The motor should also be tightly mounted against aluminum, steel, or other metallic surfaces that have a high thermal conductivity. By employing SIGMAX technology, the motor is capable of producing a higher torque by 25 percent in the same frame size. The motor has a NEMA 34 rated frame size, is UL recognized and has a CE mark.
