The 5645-039 is a Kollmorgen 5645 Microstep Indexer that features a high-performance chopper drive (bipolar) with StepperBASIC programmable indexer. This unit facilitates the efficient control of stepper motor position, speed, and rotor orientation. It features a switch-selectable current rating, with a nominal Direct Current Bus of 160 Volts. The integrated bipolar chopper drive on the 5645-039 maintain motor current at 20 kHz chopper frequency.
The 5645-039 Microstep Indexer boasts an indexer circuitry that offers programmable motion control and enables flexible application interfacing. In addition, multiple units in the 5645 series can be controlled via a single terminal or computer – the same applies to the 5645-039. This model features 12 programmable outputs and 16 programmable inputs for external devices. The memory capacity of this indexer is 12 KB (battery-backed). It utilizes serial communication interfaces supported by the RS-485 and RS-232 hardware specifications.
The typical use cases of this unit are found in labeling machines, packaging machinery, feed-to-length, slides, and X-Y tables. It can be installed in a flat cabinet that possesses a solid surface capable of holding up a 10 lb unit in place. The mounting cabinet must be free of shock and excessive vibration. At a full rated current, the operating temperature of the 5645-039 is within 0 – 50 degrees C. With ICR enabled, its operating temperature range is within 0 – 60 degrees C at 5 – 6 Amperes. This unit dissipates power which results in cabinet heating. Also, its power dissipation is dependent on output current, input step rates, idle current reduction (ICR), and motor winding impedance. By design, its phase current is rated at 5 Amperes, and ICR is enabled.
