Product Description
The 18.56.B80-4008 is a tubular braking resistor designed by KEB Automation to be used as an external accessory with the COMBIVERT frequency inverter that is also manufactured by the same company. Integrating this resistor with an industrial frequency inverter helps the product handle the energy generated by the servo motor during deceleration. This product is not included in the delivery package of the inverter, operators are required to make a separate order for the resistor. During active braking operation, the 18.56.B80-4008 converts the electrical energy into heat energy and is very likely to heat up. If the product is installed inside a control cabinet with the frequency inverter, sufficient interior cooling must be provided; also, the resistor must be mounted above the inverter with a minimum distance of 9 inches between the two products. Alternatively, the 18.56.B80-4008 can be installed in a separate enclosure away from the inverter.
The braking time at which the 18.56.B80-4008 tubular braking resistor operates is adjusted in the connected COMBIVERT frequency inverter through the deceleration parameters. Operators should avoid selecting a deceleration time that is too short, as this can cause the production of errors in the servo system. The formula required to calculate the proper braking time for this product is stated in the documentation delivered with the product and the COMBIVERT frequency inverter.
The 18.56.B80-4008 tubular braking resistor is characterized by low audible noise generation, and better EMC-properties. They are perfectly suited for use in environments with low noise levels. Examples of applications recommended for this product are passenger elevators and theatre applications. The resistance of the 18.56.B80-4008 is measured to be about 22 ohms, while the power is about 26.3 kilowatts. The total weight of this product is about 0.5 kilograms.
