Numerous drive applications can be run successfully using the innovative RD 500 drive system from Indramat Refu. This is because of the modular design of the drive system that allows it to be adapted to specific drive applications. The system’s units are designed to control electric motors and monitor their operations. Their typical areas of application are machine tools, hoist and conveyor technology, packaging and foodstuff machines, and handling and assembly systems.

The RD52.1-4N-055-L-V1-FW is an RD 500 drive converter unit designed and manufactured by Indramat Refu. It achieves motion control using field-oriented vector control and a three-phase AC voltage supply between 380V and 480V with a ±10% allowance. The converter has a power rating of 55kW and can be operated at varying pulse width modulation frequencies. Its supported PWM frequency values are 4kHz, 8kHz, and 12kHz. Cooled by forced air cooling, it has a cooling air requirement of 0.2m³/s. Firmware use is supported in this RD 52 converter, but it should be ordered as a separate sub-item.

Indramat Refu’s RDwin software for PC can be used to operate, visualize and parameterize the RD52.1-4N-055-L-V1-FW. The converter is equipped with an RS232 serial interface for its connection to a computer via a preassembled standard extension cable purchased separately. It can also be used when no line supply voltage is connected to it, thanks to its additional function standby power supply module. With this option, data sets can be parameterized, read, and written into the converter, and field buses can continue their operation. As a product of environmental class 3K3 according to DIN IEC 721-3-3, the maximum ambient temperature for the converter’s operation is 40^oC.
