The main spindle drive controller RAC 2.3-150-460-A00-Z1 from Indramat works with specific motors. It finds an application in systems that have a high stiffness and a speed range that is wide when the power is continuous.
The RAC 2 controller is adapted to the main spindle motor by the AS programming module. This gets plugged into the controller directly. Every main spindle drive from Indramat is supplied with its corresponding AS programming module. These drives are controlled by microprocessors.
As far as the servicing of the RAC 2 controllers, it is important to consider fault diagnosis and how to handle a defective controller. When there is a fault with a RAC 2 controller, the drive brakes and then the controller shuts down the power. There is a display on the control panel.
For defective controllers, lifting equipment such as a crane is required. The controller is quite heavy and weighs 121 kg. If repair work is possible or required, this is usually carried out onsite.
To allow the Indramat RAC 2 controllers to operate up to an ambient temperature of up to 45 degrees C, a cooling mechanism may be required. When the air inside the control cabinet is cooled, this allows the controller to operate without reducing the drive data. Cooling devices must be installed properly to prevent humidity and condensation. Water from an improper cooling device is dangerous to the controller inside the control cabinet. The cooling device must be set at 40 degrees C, and this should remain constant. A lower temperature must not be used. The control cabinet must be well-sealed when there is a cooling device in use.
