HDD2.1-W040N-HD12-01-FW is a modular drive controller with a fixed configuration. The basic unit has slots for a software module and a command communication module. Slots for optional plug in modules are not available. The software module contains the firmware of the drive and all drive parameters. The firmware depends on the selected configuration and functions. In the event of controller failure, the drive parameters can simply be transferred to a replacement unit by inserting the software module. The replacement drive is then immediately available with its specified features. A SERCOS command communication module is installed on the unit. This module allows reliable and fast communication with SERCOS-enabled devices over fiber optic cables. Ring topology is typically used with fiber optic media. This topology is fault-tolerant: single fiber cuts do not affect communication availability, leading to lower downtime.
