The Bosch CSH01.1C-S3-EN2-NNN-MD1-NN-S-NN-FW is an advanced control unit. It is one of the main components that make up an IndraDrive controller. The control unit has a modular architecture and can accommodate optional hardware modules. Out of the four slots, two are occupied and two are vacant. The modules installed on the CSH01.1C-S3-EN2-NNN-MD1-NN-S-NN-FW are an encoder EnDat 2.1 module (EN2) in slot 1 and a digital I/O extension module (MD1) in slot 3.  The encoder module is suitable for encoders that supply 5 Volts DC such as sin-cos encoders with sense line, sin-cos encoders with reference track and 5V-TT square-wave encoders with reference track. The encoder module has a 15-pin D-sub interface and works with stranded copper wire. The wire cross-sectional area should be between 0.25 and 1.0 mm2. The MD1 module is an extension for IndraDrive control units.

The MD1 module supports twelve 24 Volts input channels and eight 24 Volt output channels. Physical interface of the MD1 module is a 25-pin D-sub female connector. The recommended size of the stranded wire is 0.08 to 0.5 mm2. Slot 4 on the control unit can accommodate a safety module. The options for safety modules include the L1 module that supports starting lockout, the L2 module that supports safe torque off, the S1 module that supports safety technology I/O and the S2 module that supports safe motion. Each control unit supports a master communication interface. The options for master communication include Profibus, SERCOS, SERCOS III, CANopen, paralle interface and DeviceNet. The master communication module on the CSH01.1C-S3-EN2-NNN-MD1-NN-S-NN-FW supports SERCOS III. Firmware for the CSH01.1C-S3-EN2-NNN-MD1-NN-S-NN-FW is ordered separately. Bosch only permits use of approved accessories with the control unit.
