The Bosch CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW is a control unit. It is a modular device. The basic unit of each control unit has a number of slots for optional hardware modules. The number of slots depends on the type of the control unit. Advanced control units such as the CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW have four slots. Advanced control units for IndraDrive controllers are optimized for single-axis positioning applications. One slot on the unit is reserved for a safety module. The remaining three slots are reserved for functional modules. The safety module installed on the CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW supports safe torque off. Bosch recommends use of stranded copper wire with 0.25 to 0.5 mm2 wire size with this safety module. The physical interface on the module is a D-sub female 9-pin interface. Slot 3 on the CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW features a digital I/O extension module with SSI encoder interface.

This module adds 16 input and 16 outputs. The inputs are divided into two groups of eight inputs each. Each group of inputs requires a separately supply voltage. The outputs are divided into four groups of four outputs each. Each group of outputs requires a separate supply voltage. The SSI encoder evaluation is used for absolute position detection for encoders with SSI interfaces. Slots 1 and 2 on the CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW feature encoder modules. Slot 1 features an encoder IndraDyn module. Slot 2 features an encoder EnDat 2.1 module. The CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW can be configured from a standard control panel. It does not work with a comfort control panel. The CSH01.1C-PB-ENS-EN2-MD2-L2-S-NN-FW features Profibus master communication. Firmware for the control unit is ordered separately from the hardware. A firmware type plate attached to the IndraDrive controller allows identification of the firmware version that is installed on the unit.
