The KL5001-0001, which represents an encoder interface module from the well-known company Beckhoff under its KL Analog Input Series. The module offers 1 encoder interface by which the integration of encoders can directly take place in a device-comfortable manner into automation systems. The module offers a binary input with D+ and D- terminals, makes use of binary output connections, for example, with Cl+ and Cl-> to integrate various encoders.

The KL5001-0001 powers through power contacts at 24 V DC for hard industrial applications. Current without an encoder is 20 mA and with an encoder mounted will draw an additional 20 mA + load through the power contacts. The module powers the encoder through the same power contacts at 24 VDC for less hassle and wiring and installation in general. This encoder interface module supports variable data transfer rate that achieves up to speeds of 1 MHz as well as a default rate of 250 kHz that may ensure proper communication from the encoder. Data in this encoder interface is read in a width of 24-bit and therefore detailed and accurate information can be retrieved. Both input and output signals make use of differential signal (RS422) so data can be transmitted with excellent noise immunity.

The K-bus itself draws on average 25 mA - so the entire system is very energy efficient when active. The bit width of the process image contains 1 x 32-bit data, and optional 1 x 8-bit control/status for additional functionality. This module has a weight of approximately about 60 g and thus is highly easy to install. The storage temperature for this encoder interface module ranges between -40 to +85°C.
