EL4712 is an EtherCAT terminal from Beckhoff with 2-channel analog output. The output voltage is used for controlling industrial processes and is isolated for added protection. All output channels on the terminal have common ground. Outputs on the terminal are sampled at a frequency that is an integer multiple of the bus cycle frequency. For each cycle, the terminal receives one data block for the process. The terminals outputs this block in consecutive manner. Maximum output capacity of the terminals – in terms of values – is 100,000 per channel every second. Power supply voltage for the EL4712 terminal is 24 Volts DC. This voltage is supplied via the power contacts. The signal current range is from 0 to 20 milliamps. The oversampling factor is selectable and can range from 1 to 100 times the cycle time. Precision of the distributed clock is less than 1 microsecond.
The output load should always be less than 500 Ohms. The signal resolution – including the sign – is 16 bits. Error of the output – relative to the end value – is less than 0.1%. Electrical isolation between the signal voltage and the E-bus is 500 Volts. The specified conversion time is approximately 10 microseconds. Current drawn by the power contacts is 20 milliamps plus the load current. The E-bus on the EL4712 terminal draws 100 milliamps. Shipping weight of the EtherCAT terminal is approximately 65 grams. Its approximate dimensions are 12 mm x 100 mm x 68 millimeters. The robust polycarbonate housing complies with IP20 requirements. A 35 mm DIN rail can be used for installing the terminal. Either solid or flexible conductors can be used for wiring of the output connections.
