Product Description
EL1008 is a digital input module with EtherCAT support. It is designed by Beckhoff for applications that required interfacing between digital sensors and control devices on EtherCAT networks. The terminal acquires digital 24 Volts input signals and transmits them to high-level automation devices. Status of the 8 input channels is indicated by LEDs located on the terminal. Special features on the EL1008 terminal include a 3 millisecond filter that prevents signal bouncing associated with mechanical switches and specification type 1/3 for the digital inputs. Each of the digital inputs on the terminal works with 1-wire connection technology. The nominal input voltage for the digital inputs is 24 Volts DC. For the “low” signal level, the specified voltage range is from -3 to 5 Volts. For the “high” signal level, the specified voltage range is from 11 to 30 Volts.
Each of the inputs has a typical current of 3 milliamps. Delay associated with the input filter is typically 3 milliseconds. Current consumption of the power contacts is typically 2 milliamps plus the load current. E-bus on the EL1008 terminal draws approximately 90 milliamps current. Electrical isolation between the terminal E-bus and field potential is important for safety of equipment and personnel. Beckhoff has designed the terminal with 500 Volts isolation. Solid or flexible conductors with 14 to 28 AWG wire size can be used for wiring the terminals. The tough polycarbonate housing provides sturdy construction that is suitable for industrial environments. Dimensions of the EtherCAT terminal are 12 x 100 x 68 millimeters and its approximate weight is 55 grams. The IP20-rated unit is suited to indoor use. It mounts on 35 mm DIN rails.
