The EK1110 belongs to the EK family of EtherCAT extensions manufactured by Beckhoff. The extension fits into the end of the EtherCAT Terminal Block. With this extension, it is possible to extend the EtherCAT strand, ensuring it is electrically isolated by a maximum of 100m. To do that, the Ethernet cable is either connected with an RJ 45 connector. The main task of the EK1110 extension in the EtherCAT system is to convert the input E-bus signal to 100BASE_TX Ethernet. The E-bus supplies the power needed for the EK1110 to operate.

The transmission medium of the EK1110 EtherCAT extension is the shielded Ethernet CAT 5 cable. Ideally, a maximum cable length of 100 m is allowed between two Bus Couplers for 100BASE-TX.
