CP9030-A004 is a CP link plug in card. It is developed for use on industrial computers that connect to control panels deployed for process automation in industrial applications. The card inserts into an ISA slot on the computer. An ISA slot is an expansion slot that was commonly used in personal computers to add peripheral devices, such as sound cards, network cards, video cards, or modems, to the system. CP link is a protocol developed by Beckhoff for PC to control panel communication. The CP-Link plug-in card converts computer ports for display, keyboard, COM ports, PS/2 mouse and floppy drive into a serial signal and transmitted to the control panel. The CP link interface on the panel converts the serial signal for the PC ports. CP link uses coaxial cable as the physical transmission medium, with maximum cable length of 100 meters.

Two cables are required for a two-way CP link connection. A major benefit of this technology is that control panels connected to PCs can get power from the computer with the CP link connection. CP-link uses serial communication technology for gigabit rate transmission speeds. An industrial computer requires one CP link card for each control panel link. Multiple CP link cards can be installed in a computer. A maximum of three CP link plug in cards can be installed in a computer. The CP9030-A004 card has to BNC connectors for the CP link cables. It also has a Sub-D26 interface that can be used to connect a touchscreen, keyboard, PS/2 mouse and touchpad or RS-232. The card gets power via the ISA bus. At 12 Volts, it draws 1.5 Amps and at 5 Volts it draws 1 Amp.
