The AX5172-0000-0202 is one of the Digital Compact Servo Drives that comes from Beckhoff’s AX5000 series. Beckhoff has recently added this servo motor to its AX5000 family to meet the rising demand for higher output with a more maintenance-friendly electrical axis. The AX5172-0000-0202 is a single channel servo drive that easily fits into other smaller parts of the AX5000 series. The servo drive has a rated output current of 72 A with a peak output current up to 144 A. This drive features a performance class up to 118 kW with a rated supply voltage of 3 x 400…480 V AC ±10 %. The maximum permissible effective motor voltage for this device must be at least equal to the effective main voltage fed into the servo drive.

The AX5172-0000-0202 servo drive is exclusively designed for torque, speed and position control of suitable synchronous and asynchronous three-phase current motors. The servo drive is suitable for installation as a component of machines or in electrical systems and can operate only as a part of a machine component or an integrated system. The AX5172-0000-0202 is also optionally available with a backlash-free holding brake and with a multi-turn absolute encoder. In addition to a multi-feedback interface, the servo drive supports all common standards.

The AX5000 series devices are developed specifically for high-speed EtherCAT system communication. In addition to EtherCAT interface, the servo drive features very short cycle times, even in networks containing a large number of devices. The fast control technology, based on PI speed control and vector current, supports highly dynamic positioning tasks. The drive also features intelligent TwinSAFE safety functions that ensure protection against the inadvertent restart of the drive axis. The operating state is indicated by integrated status LEDs.
