X20RT8401 is a reACTION technology module. It is designed for use with X20 PLCs from B & R Automation. The module has four high-speed digital input channels and four high-speed digital mixed (configurable as input or output) channels. The channels on the module are designed for one-wire connections. Inputs on the module are designed for sink connections. Outputs on the module are designed for push-pull connections. The module supports ultrafast technology with response times as low as 1 microsecond. The programs for command are provided as function blocks. These blocks are available as special libraries. Automation Studio software can be used for editing function blocks in the special editor. With blackout mode support, function blocks on the module can be programmed even if the network is unavailable.

LED indicators are available for I/O function/channel, for module status and for operating state. Software can also be used for diagnostics. Power consumption of the module bus is 0.01 Watts and the internal I/O draw 1.7 Watts. Actuators draw additional 1.1 Watts. The manufacturer recommends using shielded line for signal transmission. The maximum permitted line length is 20 meters. Application memory on the X20RT8401 module is 64 MB flash. The data on the module is retained for 20 years at 55 degrees Celsius. The guaranteed number of erase and write cycles is 100,000. Output voltage for the encoder supply is 24 Volts DC and the maximum output current is 600 milliamps. Short-circuit and overload protection is available. Inputs and outputs on the X20RT8401 module are rated for 24 Volts DC. The input current at 24 Volts DC is 1.3 milliamps. The low switching threshold is less than 5 Volts DC and the high switching threshold is greater than 15 Volts DC.
