The X20HB2880 is one of the industrial automation system's components in the X20 Series that is made by B & R Automation that is responsible for network communication and connectivity. This module has two RJ45 shielded connectors which are critical for quality Ethernet connections. The module works in the mode of power consumption of 1.17 W. The module has provisions to support a transfer rate of one hundred Mbits per second in line with the 100BASE-TX physical layer. Half-duplex mode enables the transmission of data in only one direction at an instance while the auto negotiation allows the choosing of the best possible mode of operation for the connection to the network.

The diagnostic feature which is shown by the status LED indicators that help in identifying the module status and bus function in hastening the repair and maintenance processes. Further, the module incorporates auto-MDI/MDIX feature to enable the Ethernet cable to be of the straight-through or crossover type.

The X20HB2880's environmental specifications are set for efficient operating temperature range, horizontal operating temperature -25 to 60 degrees C and vertical operating temperature -25 to 50 degrees C. For storage, the module can function at temperatures ranging between -40 to 85 degrees C. Connectivity wise, maximum cable distance between two stations is 100 meters for the Ethernet segments which are provided by this module. The module is protected with an IP20 rating according to the presented standard EN 60529. In addition, the X20HB2880 has a hub propagation delay of between 0. 96 to 1 us which signifies the time that takes a signal to pass through the said module.
