The X20HB1881 is a hub expansion module by B&R Automation which is designed for integrating with specific POWERLINK controllers such as the X20BC8083, X20BC8084, and X20HB8880. B&R is well famous for innovations and manufacturing of electrical designs as well as mechanical components.

The X20 hud expansion unit provides a single Fast Ethernet interface specifically for fibre optic cables by utilizing a 100BASE-FX physical layer for data transmission. The module supports a transfer rate of 100 Mbit/s and features a female duplex LC connector for multimode fibre cables with core diameters of either 62.5/125 um or 50/125 um. It operates in half-duplex mode with a hub propagation delay ranging from 0.96 to 1 us. The module's typical wavelength is 1300 nm, with both Rx and Tx ranges spanning from 1270 to 1380 nm. The optical power budget differs depending on the cable used, offering 11 dB for 62.5/125 um glass fibre and 7.5 dB for 50/125 um glass fibre. This configuration allows for a maximum line length of 175 meters in half-duplex mode or up to 2 kilometres in POWERLINK applications. It is built with LED indicators for monitoring module status and bus function by ensuring easy diagnostics. It consumes 1.45 W of power which helps in making it an efficient component in industrial automation setups.

The X20HB1881 module is hot-swap-capable by allowing it to be replaced without shutting down the entire system. In terms of environmental resilience the module operates within a temperature range of -25 to 60 degrees C (horizontal mounting) or -25 to 50 degrees C (vertical mounting) and can withstand relative humidity having a range of 5 to 95%. It meets IP20 protection standards and various certifications, including CE, ATEX Zone 2, and cCSAus for hazardous locations which aids in making it suitable for a wide range of hub expansion setups.
