Product Description
The X20DC1396 provides an input for an ABR incremental encoder and an additional input channel, primarily for an enable switch. It is designed to work with other X20 modules and acts as a digital signal processor. As a robust digital counter module, the X20DC1396 provides a set of status indicators for notifying the user of the module's current states, errors, and the functions that occur in the I/O channels. For most automation environments, 24 VDC is the standard supply voltage. For this module, the same terminal voltage applies, although some deviation from this terminal voltage is acceptable. Particularly, the X20DC1396's ABR incremental encoder and digital input support a supply voltage of 24 VDC.
During normal operation, the incremental encoder draws a maximum current of 600 mA at an asymmetrical voltage of 24 V. The maximum frequency for the ABR incremental encoder is 100 kHz. The encoder performs evaluation four times and uses a 16/32-bit counter. On the other hand, the X20DC1396's digital input draws approximately 3.3 mA at an input voltage of 24 V. The input channel uses a 3-wire connection, has a resistance of 7.19 kOhms, and offers an additional function for a home enable switch.
The X20DC1396's reference enable switch is isolated from the bus but not from the encoder. Only the ABR incremental encoder includes protection devices for its supply voltage. Like other standard modules, the X20DC1396 has a protection class of IP 20 and supports an installation level up to 2000 meters without performance consequences. Finally, the X20DC1396 both supports horizontal and vertical installations and operates well at either installation orientation. Careful consideration must be given, however, to the X20DC1396's spacing from adjacent modules.
