Product Description:
The X20BC0053 is one of those remote I/O controllers that support real-time communication over a single network via DeviceNet communication. Contrary to the belief of other people, the DeviceNet communication is not yet obsolete and is still very useful, especially in automation applications. The DeviceNet is a communication protocol built over the controller area network (CAN) and utilizes a master-slave architecture to manage all interconnected devices within a given system. Like the CAN communication protocol, the DeviceNet incorporates a twisted-pair cable and requires a nominal voltage of 24 VDC. For the X20BC0053, the Fieldbus incorporates a 5-pin male multipoint connector.
Belonging to the X20 series by B&R Automation, the X20BC0053 also shares some of the standard features innate to most X20 remote controllers. During operation and storage, this device must be kept between -25 and 60 degrees C and -40 and 80 degrees C, respectively. At normal conditions, the X20BC0053's bus utilizes 1.5 watts of power. Since the DeviceNet is built on top of the CAN bus protocol, this X20 unit also has an integrated terminating resistor, which functions via an incorporated mechanical switch. The X20BC0053 facilitates automatic rate detection, which allows seamless and hassle-free data transfer configuration. Although configuring the transfer rate is straightforward, complexity arises when the I/O controller communicates with several devices, each with different transfer rates, consecutively or simultaneously.
The X20BC0053 is a plug-in module that complies with international standards and protocols. Specifically, the X20BC0053 is compliant with these certifications: ATEX, CE, ENV1, KR, ABS, KC, EAC, DNV GL, and more. Like all other B&R Industrial Automation's products, the X20BC0053 also has a specific order code and manufacturer identification. For this device, the manufacturer SKU is 7963, while its order code is 0x1F1B.
Frequently Asked Questions about X20BC0053:
Q: What is the X20BC0053's mass?
A: The X20BC0053 has a weight of 0.91 pounds.
Q: What is the maximum distance supported by the X20BC0053's communication protocol?
A: The X20BC0053's DeviceNet connection supports a theoretical maximum distance of 1 kilometer, or 1000 meters.
Q: What is the maximum transfer rate supported by the X20BC0053?
A: The X20BC0053 supports a transfer rate up to 500 kbit per second.
Q: What terminal block is compatible with the X20BC0053?
A: The X20BC0053 is compatible with the TB2105 block terminal.
Q: How is the CAN bus protocol different from the DeviceNet protocol used by the X20BC0053?
A: The DeviceNet protocol is built on top of the CAN bus connection. For this reason, both protocols share several features and capabilities. However, both protocols are different from each other in many aspects. For one, the CAN bus protocol uses peer-to-peer topology and supports a maximum speed of 1 Mbps. The DeviceNet, on the other hand, uses master-slave architecture and supports a data rate of up to 500 kbit/s only. The advantage of using DeviceNet, however, is that it employs an application layer using the common industrial protocol.
