The X20BC0043-C01 is a programmable logic controller that is compatible with a wide variety of X20 modules and unit devices. It serves as a processing unit for facilitating CANopen slave communication. For this module, the terminal block, bus base, and power supply modules must be bought separately. The Fieldbus CANopen slave incorporates a 5-pin multipoint connector for initiating data transfer and communication. At most, the X20BC0043-C01 supports a transfer distance of 1000 meters at a speed of 1 Mbit/s. By default, the X20BC0043-C01 automatically controls the rate of data transfer but may be configured to transmit data at a fixed rate.

Aside from its interface, the X20BC0043-C01 also provides basic diagnostics to let the user know about the status of its internal processes during operation. These diagnostics are facilitated using a set of status LEDs. These status LEDs light up when the module is on, the bus functions, there is data transfer, and/or the terminating resistor is active. During operation, this programmable controller's bus consumes 1.5 watts of power. Assuming horizontal orientation, the X20BC0043-C01 can withstand an ambient temperature between -25 and 60 degrees Celsius. For applications requiring this PLC module to be mounted vertically, the recommended ambient temperature is -25 to 50 degrees Celsius.

One of the best features of the X20BC0043-C01 is that it can detect transfer rates automatically. During startup, the bus controller enters listen mode. At this period, the controller shifts to different transfer rates until valid objects are transmitted. The shifting of the data rate happens based on a look-up table programmed in the controller. To lock the data transfer rate, the user must disable the automatic data rate detection.
