Product Description

The X20BB67 is another user-friendly bus base module from B&R Automation. Originally intended for Compact-S controllers, this bus base module provides a backplane for all Compact-S PLCs, power supply units, and X20 interface modules. Aside from serving as a base for the Compact-S controllers, this bus base module also offers interfaces for the following communication protocols: RS232 and CAN bus. Like all other bus base modules, a special terminal resistor operates at the CAN bus serial interface. The terminating resistor provides a mechanism for preventing signal reflection at the CAN bus interface back to the source. This terminating resistor comes with a designated mechanical switch.

Assuming favorable operating conditions, the estimated bus power consumption of the X20BB67 is 0.94 watts. Without resistive actuators and internal I/O power consumption, the bus is the only element contributing to the power consumption. The X20BB67's I/O supply reaches a nominal voltage of 24 VDC. At this terminal voltage, the permissible load current contact is 10 amperes. This bus base module can be mounted either horizontally or vertically by using a DIN rail. When mounting this unit, however, careful head allowance and spacing must both be considered.

Since the X20BB67 is a small component under the X20 series, it is fairly immune to performance variations due to installation levels. Specifically, from 0 to 2 kilometers above sea level, the X20BB67 experiences no consequence in its performance or ambient conditions. For every 0.1 km beyond the said level, the ambient temperature goes down by 0.5 degrees C. Throughout the duration of operation, the recommended operating temperature of the X20BB67 must be kept between -25 and 60 degrees Celsius, assuming horizontal mounting orientation.

Frequently Asked Questions about X20BB67

Q: What degree of protection does the X20BB67 incorporate?

A: The X20BB67 incorporates a degree of protection of IP 20. This protection category ensures that accidental finger shock would not be an issue.

Q: Why does the recommended operating temperature for the X20BB67 vary depending on mounting orientation?

A: The operating temperature range of the X20BB67 varies depending on its orientation. When mounted horizontally, the default operating temperature range applies. When mounted vertically, however, the temperature range is smaller because the ventilation becomes a bit limited.

Q: How do I know if the terminating resistor in the X20BB67 is enabled?

A: To know whether the X20BB67's terminating resistor for the CAN bus connection is working, the LED T on the supply module should be on.

Q: What is the B&R ID of the X20BB67?

A: The X20BB67 has a designated B&R ID of 0xEB07.

Q: How is the X20BB67 different from the X20BB62?

A: The X20BB67 fully supports both RS232 and CAN bus connections, while the X20BB62 only provides functionalities for establishing RS232 communication.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘Boasting a powerful set of features, the X20BB67 is ideal for applications that heavily rely on Compact-S PLCs. With its natural support for RS232 and CAN bus communication, you don't need to add a separate X20 interface module, although there's a slot for one if ever you need it.’’
