The B&R System 2010 could not be complete without the B&R 2EX100.50-1 Remote I/O Master Module, which is responsible for extending the input/output capabilities of the system by allowing remote connections. This module was released in 2010 and has two RS485 interfaces that are electrically isolated from each other so they can transfer data reliably over long distances. It can work with different baud rates whereby maximum distances may vary: at 100kBit/sec 1200 meters; at 2000 kBit/sec 100 meters.

A feature of this module is that it can have up to eight remote I/O masters on the bus and support 31 slaves without using a repeater, following the master/slave principle with physical bus topology.
