The B & R Automation 5LS189.6, which belongs to the 5LS Series, is a high-performance, PCI half-size module that is suitable for various industrial automation applications, thanks to its features. The features of the 5LS189.6 include power input of 4.0 W and IP20 protection upon installation in the industrial environment. This product has an X2X Link Master interface which enables consistent fieldbus communication that supports the maximum baud rates to 100 MBit/s for fast data transfer and connection. Also, the type of the module allows for a maximum cable length of up to 100 meters between two stations in large installations.

The 5LS189.6 features 1 MByte of battery-backed SRAM offering substantial storage space which improves automation runtime data and enhances the module's reliability and performance. The module also includes electrical isolation between PC interfaces (Pc - Ifx) and between Interface 1 (If1) and Interface 2 (If2) to avoid safety and signal integration issues among tightly interconnected automation systems. The status displays inform about the status of the Powerlink station with respect to the currently running PacketEngine, the activities of the Powerlink network, and about the link/collision status of Interface 2 (IF2).
