Product Description
The 5LS189 which is part of the 5LS Series produced by B&R Automation is a module specifically designed for industrial automation systems of higher levels. The design of this module is to offer high performance when it comes to its working with the 1 MB SRAM memory that is backed up by the battery that will allow the data to remain consistent even in the cases of power failures. This memory capability is critical in data handling tasks.
In the specifications of the 5LS189, the following item is highlighted: POWERLINK (V1/V2) with transmitting speed up to 100 Mbit/s. This is made possible by an RJ45 port that is shielded and therefore the data transmission is free from any interference. The module also has an X2X Link master fieldbus interface integrated into the design, which correspondingly makes this selectable module more flexible in terms of compatibility with other systems. The main specifications of 5LS189 imply its ability to work in different environmental conditions: operating temperature 0 to 55 degrees C. In the installed state it comes with an IP20 rating which offers protection against dust and inadvertent touch; ensuring that the product is mechanically robust in industrial application. It has the feature of auto-negotiation which makes it easy to integrate into any established network in that it automatically sets the best parameters.
To increase the communication, the 5LS189 has incorporated a maximum line length of 100 meters between two stations, thus allowing it to meet various installation conditions. It complies with the physical layer 100BASE-T, which means that the transmission of data is fast and of high quality. Communication can again be done in half-duplex and full-duplex and with the inclusion of the full-duplex in the Ethernet mode it increases data handling capabilities. Other special features include auto-MDI/MDIX that provides automatic crossover between devices, thereby avoiding the need for cross-over cables and the support of complete auto-negotiation for the network conditions automatically.
