The 5D5501.13 is one of the most advanced industrial automation devices produced by B & R automation it is a sophisticated display unit that is intended to improve industrial automation systems by serving as a user friendly interface that engineers and operators can use to monitor the operation of industrial controllers and send in command instructions. This display unit is designed specifically for the IPC5000, and IPC5600 controller series. The display unit can be directly mounted on the IPC5000, however for the IPC5600 the display unit should be mounted about 10 meters away as the dimension of the controller allows for only remote operation. This display type of the 5D5501.13 display unit is a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display with a compact florescent lamp background. The display screen can also display more than 262,144 different colors, although the actual number of colors depends on the graphics memory, the graphic mode set, and the graphics driver used.

The handling, installation, and general operation of the 5D5501.13 display unit is very easy and straightforward, however to ensure optimum operation only qualified personnel should be allowed to interact with the display unit. The display screen as a diagonal length of 10.4 inches, the frame of the display unit is made from anodized aluminum while the decor foil is made from polyester material.
