The 5A5001.18 is a unique and durable hard disk used by B & R to function as the mass memory used in their industrial PC units. This hard disk is widely renowned for its efficient energy consumption and quick access time. It contains more than 58,000,00 sectors on its disk, and can store up to 512 bytes of data on each of those sectors. The total storage capacity of this mass memory device is about 30 gigabytes. This product is manufactured by Seagate technology, it is tested and guaranteed to meet international standards before delivery. The revolution speed of this product is about 5,400 revolutions per minute. After startup, it takes the hard disk approximately 3 seconds to position its read write head and guarantee read access.

Mounting of the < 5A5001.18>> hard disk is done through a fixed adapter card, the disk also establishes connection to the component through an Advanced Technology Attachment interface. The 5A5001.18 hard disk is integrated with a Self Monitoring Analysis Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T) support system. This monitors elements of possible long term disk failure such as spin up time, number of Start/stops, and Number of hours powered on the hard disk temperature. The Cache memory of the disk is about 8 megabytes, while the Mean Time Between Failure on the hard disk is about 500,000 hours.

The 5A5001.18 hard disk is built to last, it can maintain an optimum operation in industrial PCs for at least 5 years or 20,000 power on hours. The drive is however sensitive to vibrations and shocks and should not be used in environments that exposes it to these elements. The maximum permissible operation for the hard disk is about 4,419 meters.
