The KL5111-0012 from Beckhoff is a high-resolution, incremental encoder interface module of the renowned KL Analog Input Series. This module is provided with one 1 incremental encoder input channel. It is suitable for position feedback within automation plants. The encoder can be quickly and ideally connected to the terminals A, B, C, and 24 V of the module in order to integrate seamlessly in the system setup that already exists.
The power supply of the KL5111-0012 is always reliable across a range of -15% +20%. It uses a 16-bit binary counter to count incoming signals with a high degree of accuracy; up to an evaluation of 1 million increments/s over 4-fold. The quadrature decoder that comes integrated into the device assures exact position and motion tracking control even in high-performance applications. The device itself incorporates a 16-bit zero-pulse latch, which returns an immediate position indication of the encoder. Several commands are supported: read, set, enable, which provides flexible operation control. A typical current consumption from the K-bus of 40 mA ensures optimal energy efficiency. The process image has a bit width of 2 x 16-bit data; in addition, two fields consist of 2 x 8-bit control/status. This makes a proper communication possible with good-quality data.
Weighing about 60 g, its compact design makes it an ideal component for space-constrained applications. The KL5111-0012 operates within the temperature range of 0…+55°C, with storage ranging from –25 to +85°C, thus providing the guarantee of effective operation in any environment. This module also meets standards set for vibration and shock resistance according to EN 60068-2-6/EN 60068-2-27 and EMC immunity and emission standards according to EN 61000-6-2/EN 61000-6-4.
