Product Description
EP1816-0008 is an industrial box with native EtherCAT connectivity. It is designed by Beckhoff to act as an interface between automation system controllers connected to EtherCAT networks and digital I/O such as sensors. The box acquires binary signals from connected sensors and sends them to the respective controller. Wiring from the digital sensors connects to the box through a D-sub socket with 25 pins. Supply voltage of the box is used for powering the connected sensors. A version of the box with a special pin assignment is also available from Beckhoff. Two shielded 4-pin M8 sockets act as the bus interface. There are a total of 16 input channels on the industrial box. The input wiring for these inputs is via a 25-pin D-sub socket. Value of the nominal input to the box is 24 Volts DC.
Delay of the input channel filter is 10 microseconds. Inputs on the box are configured to assign a binary value of 0 to signals between -3 and 5 Volts. Inputs on the box are configured to assign a binary value of 1 to signals between 11 and 30 Volts. Support for distributed clocks is available on the EP1816-0008 box. 500 Volts of isolation between the inputs and other circuits provides operating safety and protects input data signals from corruption. Approximate weight of the EP1816-0008 box is 165 grams. Its width is 30 millimeters, its height is 126.5 millimeters and its depth is 33 millimeters. Housing of the box is made of tough polyamide and belongs to IP65 protection class. With this superior grade of ingress protection, the EtherCAT box can be deployed by operators in dusty environments.
