The Beckhoff EL6900 is a TwinSAFE Logic Terminal designed for safety-critical applications within EtherCAT communication systems. The EL6900, part of Beckhoff's industrial automation systems, delivers dependable and efficient safety control via TwinSAFE/Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) protocols. Beckhoff is known for its sturdy automation technology that meets demanding safety regulations, and the EL6900 is no exception. The EL6900 supports up to 128 safe connections and manages up to 255 safety-related function blocks that include basic Boolean functions and complex safety tasks like muting. It operates with a cycle time of approximately 500 us depending on the size of the project to make it suitable for time-critical applications. The configurable fault response time can be adjusted to align with the system's watchdog time. Users can configure up to 32 TwinSAFE groups, and the EL6900 supports up to 8 different users, providing flexibility in managing safety applications. The terminal is programmed using the TwinCAT 3 Safety Editor or TwinCAT 2 to make it compatible with existing Beckhoff software environments. The current consumption of the logic terminal is 188 mA from the E-bus that ensures efficient energy usage while maintaining high safety performance.
To ensure that strict safety criteria are met, the EL6900 TwinSAFE Logic Terminal is certified to international safety standards such as DIN EN ISO 13849-1:2008 (Cat. 4, PL e) and EN 61508:2010 (SIL 3). The terminal is certified for ATEX and IECEx zones and has an IP20 protection grade. The terminal is intended to be installed on a 35 mm DIN rail and measures 12 mm (W) x 100 mm (H) x 68 mm (D).
