Product Description
Industrial Ethernet networks have been a crucial aspect of the robust and high dynamic industrial floor. However, other networks such PROFIBUS have been developed based on the industrial Ethernet to provide higher speeds, more bandwidth, and support larger messages. To interface a standard Ethernet interface with PROFINET master, a Beckhoff TwinCAT Supplement is used to turn each Beckhoff PC-based control system into a PROFINET IO controller. To widen the PROFINET network to communicate with an EtherCAT network, PROFINET can be coupled with EtherCAT using a Beckhoff PROFINET controller Supplement terminal. Note that the terminal acts as a controller towards PROFINET and as a slave on the EtherCAT end.
The EL6632 is a Beckhoff PROFINET IRT controller that has the capability of offering complete isochronous real-time (IRT) or real-time (RT) functionalities. Easy monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities on the controller are enabled by the onboard status LEDs. When connected in a line topology, the EL6632 can support a maximum of 15 PROFINET RT devices and a maximum of 5 PROFINET IRT devices with the maximum distance between any two devices being 100 meters. For network diagnostics, SNMP or LLDP protocols are used.
The Beckhoff EL6632 supports Windows XP and Windows XP Embedded operating systems and a TwinCAT I/O, CNC, NC I, NC, and PLC software. Target systems for the EL6632 include PC (x86) and Windows CE devices with an EtherCAT interface. The EL6632 has 500 V electrical isolation for the E-bus/Ethernet, a minimum isochronous real-time cycle of 500 microseconds and a minimum real-time cycle of 1 millisecond. The controller’s current consumption is 400 mA via E-bus. For optimal performance, the controller should be operated in a temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius, stored in a temperature range of -25 to +85 degrees Celsius, and relative humidity should be 95% without condensation.
