Product Description
EL1904 is an EtherCAT terminal manufactured by Beckhoff Automation for industrial applications. The terminal supports EtherCAT technology for fast network communication. EtherCAT technology supports redundancy, which is essential for reliability in control applications. The terminal is equipped with 4 digital input channels. Four separate sensors can connect to the terminal via the input channels. These input channels support fail-safe operation. Safety parameters on the terminal adapt to application requirements. Special features supported by the EL1904 terminal include detection of cross-circuits, 2-channel vs. 1-channel evaluation, and channel testing. Beckhoff has designed the terminal to support both 1-wire and 2-wire operation. The protocol available on the terminal is TwinSAFE and Safety over EtherCAT. The terminal requires 4 milliseconds between reading from the input and writing to the E-bus.
The terminal E-bus draws approximately 200 milliamps. Beckhoff has designed this terminal for mounting only in the horizontal position. It complies with multiple safety standards including EN 61508 and EN ISO 13849. Weight of the unit is approximately 50 grams. Its housing complies with IP20 requirements for solid and liquid ingress protection. Dimensions of the EL1904 terminal are approximately 12 x 100 x 68 millimeters. Installation of the terminal requires 35 millimeter DIN rails with locks that are EN 60715 compliant. Signal LEDs provide diagnostic information that is useful during operation and troubleshooting. Beckhoff permits input wiring using copper wires with solid or flexible conductors. The permitted wire cross-section is 0.08 to 2.5 mm2 or 14 to 28 AWG. The terminal is designed for high-performance applications. Only qualified personnel with trained and experience should install and operate the terminal. Failure to follow recommended safety precautions can lead equipment damage and injury to personnel.
