The EK1521 is a single-port EtherCAT fibre optic junction. The device is an EtherCAT Terminal that should be placed on an I/O station in conjunction with an EtherCAT Couple (e.g: EK1100). This junction allows the conversion from Ethernet 100BASE-TX telegrams to 100BASE-FX glass fibre physics. With this 1-port junction it is even possible to realise cable redundant systems using fibre optic. Fiber optic EtherCAT terminals such as the EK1521 and EK1501 can be connected while covering very large distances up to 2 km. The device has no need to be configured, since it is just a passive medium converter and does not hold an EtherCAT ID within itself.

The module is able to provides some feedback to the user through two LED positioned on the front side of the device. The RUN LED indicator will provide information on whether or not the EK1521 is powered on and the Link LED indicator will tell the user whether or not the communication through the device port is running. The power supply of the device comes directly from the coupler of the I/O station through the E-bus connection. The typical current consumption of the EK1521 from the E-bus is 350 mA. The environment temperature around the module should stay between 32 and 131 degrees Fahrenheit while the device is in working conditions and shall stay in the following range: -13… 185 degrees Fahrenheit when the EK1521 is in storage conditions.
