The EK9300-1007 Bus coupler is one of the many products from Beckhoff. It is designed to improve upon the EtherCAT communication system. There are two Ethernet interfaces on the coupler; the transmission of data through the ethernet interface occurs at a rate of about 100 megabits per second. There is also a USB interface behind the front flap of the device.

The housing of the EK9300-1007 coupler is made from polycarbonate; it is a compact terminal housing with signal Light light-emitting diodes for diagnostics purposes. The meaning of the diagnostic message on the coupler is clearly stated in the documentation delivered with it. The product is about 64 millimeters wide, 100 millimeters tall and about 72 millimeters thick. Although the installation of this coupler can be done in any position, it should be mounted on a 35 millimeters DIN rail conforming to EN 60715 with a lock. The coupler also allows for side-by-side mounting by means of the double slot and key connection.

The EK9300-1007 requires a 4x2 twisted pair copper cable classified under category 5 for data transfer. The data transfer cable can reach a length of 100 meters; it also allows for star wiring and line topology. The Input current required by the is about 120 milliamperes. The coupler can operate at a relative humidity that does not exceed 95 per cent; also condensation inside the coupler should be avoided.
