EtherCAT Coupler or the Beckhoff EK1512-0010 is an important part of the industrial communication network, which provides high speed and real-time medium of communication using EtherCAT protocol.

In setups requiring extended reach and high data integrity, this coupler features a 1 port single mode fiber optic connection with an SC duplex connector. The built-in capability supports data transfer speed up to 100 Mbit/s, which is important for effective and rapid data transfer between the systems, and has fiber optic connections up to 20 km, which significantly improves the networking capacity of large industrial applications. EtherCAT star topologies are supported by the device and the network setups are very flexible. Being designed for effortless incorporation with EtherCAT Terminal systems, it is fully coherent with other Beckhoff EtherCAT devices and provides a highly reliable EtherCAT network. The EK1512-0010 is powered by the EtherCAT Ebus and consumes 350 mA typically which minimizes the use of external power sources and helps keep system architecture simple. Within a temperature range of -25 to +60°C, it is very reliable in operation and can be stored between -40 and +85°C preserving itself in varied conditions. With an IP20-protected coupler housed in polycarbonate, it is optimized for indoor use where a degree of protection from solid objects is required.

The easy-to-install device mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail via a double slot and key connection allowing easy side-by-side mounting and easy installation and integration into control cabinets. Compact design, 24 mm (W) x 100 mm (H) x 52 mm (D) with the EK1512-0010 allows it to fit snugly into space-constrained environments. Compliance and approval are stringent, where it meets extensive CE, UL, ATEX, and IECEx standards and is suitable for use within regulated and potentially hazardous environments. The construction of this mechanism meets the vibration and shock resistance standards according to EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27 for demanding industrial use.
