The Beckhoff CX1020-0113 is an embedded PC from the CX Series, which is a small and powerful unit for industrial control and automation systems. It uses a low voltage Intel® Celeron® M ULV processor at 1 GHz, well-suited for real-time applications, which require quite good performance. The processor is a single core processor, which is fit for routine and stable automation activities.

The module includes 256 MB of DDR RAM, which can be embedded up to 1 GB, for working with memory hungry applications. The CX1020-0113 has storage expansion by the presence of Compact Flash card slot with 128 MB of flash memory onboard and it can be extended as per the additional need for storage. The CX1020-0113 sports two RJ45 Ethernet ports that support 10/100 Mbit/s with an internal switch for easier communication between devices via a network. The device is designed for passive cooling, though out factory optional active cooling is surmountable for high performance environment. To avoid the risk of overheating, the unit should be placed in bottom ventilation with loading 30 mm above and 30 mm below for adequate air movement.

The status LEDs further enhance the overall system performance by allowing power, LAN link/activity, TwinCAT status and flash access status to be monitored in real time for ease of fault isolation and system management. It comes with an internal real time clock that is able to keep time even when there are no mains power. The CX1020-0113 is capable of running TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime NC PTP runtime and NC I runtime while running Windows Embedded CE 6 or Windows Embedded Standard 2009 making it appropriate for complete automation control and motion control tasks.
