Of the many Embedded Systems produced by Beckhoff, the CX1020-0111 is the most compact and efficient CX Series Embedded PC designed for the industrial automation market. The on board processor is an Intel® Celeron® M ULV, clocked at 1GHz which is adequate for control as well as for soft real time operations. The processor is clocked and single core making it suitable for photo scanning, as this operations require constant and predictable mechanical performance.

A DDR RAM of 256 MB capacity is installed in the CX1020-0111 and can be expanded to 1 GB if more demanding applications need to be implemented. The device comes with 128MB of Compact flash storage though it employs additional capacity that may be required for increased data storage. The device is working on Windows Embedded CE 6, and supports the TwinCAT 2 PLC runtime for applications concerned with automation and control processes.

All the above-mentioned facilities provide the module with networking capabilities through 2 RJ45 Ethernet ports that support data transfer rate of 10/100 Mbit/s while maintaining reliability in industrial communication. While the product is passive vent (fanless), one can obtain active fans as an accessory to the product when it is expected to operate under more stringent operating conditions. Aside from application areas, the CX1020-0111 also includes LEDs that indicate power, LAN link & activity, TwinCAT status, and flash access, thus enabling users to monitor system activity status continuously and aiding the system in repair rather than in maintenance. Time and date information is maintained by an internal clock which is backed by a battery for use when AC power is not present which is helpful in time restricted processes.
