Product Description
The Beckhoff BK5120/PL3 is a versatile bus coupler from the BK EtherCAT Bus Coupler Series, designed for flexible and efficient data transmission in industrial automation environments. It is capable of supporting up to 64 bus terminals, with the potential to expand to 255 terminals using a K-bus extension, making it suitable for both small and large systems. The coupler handles 960 digital peripheral signals for inputs and outputs, as well as 60 analog peripheral signals, providing comprehensive I/O handling.
With a data transmission rate of up to 1 Mbaud, the BK5120/PL3 ensures fast and reliable communication. The device features 16 Tx/16 Rx PDOs for fieldbus data transmission, making it compatible with CANopen networks and offering additional CANopen features such as life, node guarding, emergency objects, variable mapping, and store/restore functions. The bus interface uses a 5-pin open style connector, and the data is transferred via a screened, twisted copper cable, ensuring signal integrity and reliable performance in industrial environments.
The BK5120/PL3 can be configured via KS2000 or through the controller, offering flexible setup options depending on the application. It operates with a 24 V DC power supply and consumes 70 mA plus the total K-bus current, with a maximum input current of 500 mA. The device’s starting current is approximately 2.5 times the continuous current, and a fuse of ≤ 10 A is recommended. The K-bus current supply is rated at 1750 mA, ensuring adequate power for the connected bus terminals. The IP20 protection rating makes the BK5120/PL3 suitable for controlled indoor environments, and its lightweight design, weighing approximately 150 grams, facilitates easy installation. With flexible wiring topologies, including line or tree structures, the device supports maximum wiring flexibility, allowing for cost-effective and efficient setup using standard Ethernet patch cables or media converters in Ethernet mode (100Base-TX).
