The Beckhoff BK1501 is a member of the EtherCAT Bus Coupler BK family which is particularly suitable for use in industrial automation systems. This bus coupler has the Fieldbus interface for PROFIBUS, which makes it easy to integrate into the existing PROFIBUS networks.

This coupling mechanism uses plug-type connectors thus making it easy and safe to connect and disconnect, something crucial in minimizing downtime in the course of assembly or servicing. This is intended to support the expansion of fieldbus stations in a modular approach which is suitable for systems whose size may grow in the future. The BK1501 supports the transmission rate for DP/DPV1 and features a line structure topology that makes it easy to install the network and improve the performance of the system. It can accommodate up to 64 bus terminals per station which is quite helpful in the sense that the system is easily configurable depending on the need of the operation. PROFIBUS dynamic addressing enables good node integration thus improving the network control and minimizing node configuration. Diagnostic LEDs have been provided to facilitate real-time monitoring of the measurement system and aid in identifying faults at the earliest. The power supply voltage is standard at 24 V DC, which is suitable for the typical industrial range, and the current consumption of the device is a maximum of 450 mA. The working temperature of the device is between 0°C and 55°C, which provides stability in different climates.

Measuring 99 mm x 28 mm x 70 mm it is ideally suited for installation in control cabinets. The BK1501 provides broad connectivity for system integration by supporting up to 65,534 EtherCAT terminals for an extensive modular extension. For large sites, it supports network distances up to 2 km using multi-mode fiber optic connections which is very important in maintaining high communication link integrity in extensive industrial layouts.
