The BC3150i0018 is a type B coupler which has built-in TwinCAT support and is connected to the PROFIBUS Bus Coupler for purposes of bus terminators control and other peripheral connections in an industrial automation setting. The device under consideration includes program memory of 48 kbytes, data memory of 32 kbytes and remanent data of 2 kbytes which is very important for the system to hold data when power is lost. In the launcher, only relevant information is included such as the number of PLC tasks supported by the runtime system: 1; and the PLC cycle time of about 3 milliseconds, which includes executing 1000 instructions, meaning that it is applicable for real-time control activities.

The unit is programmed in accordance with IEC 61131-3 including IL, LD, FBD, SFC and ST and actually does allow fast relocation and online changes for operational flexibility. The BC3150-0018 are capable of driving maximum 64 of bus terminals but this limit can be expanded to 255 by K-bus extension. It also allows 128 bytes of input and 128 bytes of output in fieldbus communication and control 512 bytes input and output in process image. The device is also capable of 2040 channels digital peripheral interfacing and 128 channels analog peripheral interconnecting.

The bus interface connects to the system via an automatic system through a 9 pin sending socket, the highest data transfer of which is 12Mbaud. To optimize communication, it is possible to have 32 devices per bus segment and 9 repeaters in between devices with support of 127 devices on the bus network. They recommend to avoid stubs in the network because above 1.5Mbaud the signal is likely to degrade as they induce reflections.
