Product Description
AM8012-1C21-0000 is a high-performance servo motor. It is an AM8000 series motor from Beckhoff. These motors have a brushless design and are equipped with an electronic circuit for commutation. Motor commutation is the process of switching the current in the windings of a motor to ensure that the magnetic fields generated by the stator and rotor interact correctly to produce continuous rotational motion. Previously, carbon brushes were used for commutation. These brushes required periodic replacement and caused sparks which led to safety concerns. Electronic commutation solves both these problems, improves motor performance and reliability at the same time. High quality permanent magnets on the motor rotor allow low motor inertia, which enables fast response times and high energy efficiency.
The AM8012-1C21-0000 motor works with convection cooling. Its ambient temperature should be kept between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius. The maximum site elevation for rated output is 1000 meters. Output of the motor derates if ambient conditions exceed these thresholds. The AM8012-1C21-0000 motor has a shaft with a feather key and groove. A multi turn encoder provides speed and position feedback. A holding brake prevents unintentional shaft rotation. The brake releases the shaft after receiving an electrical release signal from the servo drive. An M40 connector on the motor housing enables a strong and high-speed connection for power and data transfer. A 58 millimeter flange enables secure motor mounting. Housing of the motor unit complies with IP54 protection class which indicates robust liquid and solid ingress protection. The material use for housing construction is aluminum. A powder coat is applied to the housing for protection against corrosive elements. Trained and qualified professionals should operate the motor.
